FrigePath

How we test and score

We evaluate cold plunge accessories against protocol benchmarks: temperature precision, equipment sizing for actual tub volumes, and realistic maintenance requirements. Reviews are written for practitioners who cite Huberman and Soeberg by name and want BTU ratings before brand stories.

Who reviews these picks

Tyler Garner, Cold plunge practitioner and recovery gear reviewer

Tyler has practiced daily cold water immersion for three years and built two home cold plunge setups from scratch. He tests equipment against published protocol benchmarks and writes FrigePath reviews for buyers who want compatibility data, not marketing copy.

What we score on

Every pick is judged on the same criteria. We weight them by what actually matters for the way you will use the gear, then write up the tradeoffs honestly.

Temperature performance

Actual minimum temperature achieved in a stated tub volume at a stated ambient temperature. We report achieved temperatures, not rated specs, and flag the gap when they differ.

Sizing and compatibility

A half-horsepower chiller that works in an 80-gallon indoor tub will not hold temperature in a 110-gallon outdoor setup in summer. We match products to real use cases, not the smallest tub on the spec sheet.

Build and material quality

Titanium versus copper heat exchangers, 600D fabric versus single-layer PVC, rotomolded versus blow-molded plastic. Material grade is the durability signal that marketing copy obscures.

Water treatment effectiveness

Filter micron ratings, sanitation contact time, and water change extension in practice. A 20-micron filter that clogs in five days is not the same value as one that runs four weeks at daily use.

Entry and exit safety

Cold-shocked muscles reduce motor precision on exit. We evaluate step height, tread grip material, and mat coverage against the real hazard profile of every plunge session.

How our picks work

Each category roundup is ranked by our editorial score. The highest-scored option carries the Top Pick badge. Separately, the option that delivers the most for the money carries the Best Value badge. They are often different products on purpose: the best-scored is not always the smartest buy for most people, and we tell you which is which.

What we never do

  • We take no payment, free product, or sponsorship in exchange for coverage or a ranking. There are no paid placements.
  • We say what is wrong with a product, not just what is right. Every pick lists real tradeoffs.
  • We match recommendations to your situation (fitment, skill level, budget, and use case) instead of pushing one product on everyone.
  • We keep our picks current and re-check them as products and prices change.
